Flat roof insulation with termPIR® AL panels — 2000 m² project
The featured project covers the thermal insulation of a flat roof with an area of approximately 2000 m², built on a lightweight steel structure. The facility is located in Poland and represents a typical example of a modern commercial/industrial hall, where PIR insulation panels were applied as the primary thermal layer of the roof assembly.
Design challenge
The investment required an insulation material meeting current WT 2021 requirements for roofs (U ≤ 0.15 W/m²K), while simultaneously maintaining a low self-weight of the partition — a critical factor for steel structures. Additional criteria included rapid installation and resistance to weather conditions during roofing works, which ruled out moisture-absorbing materials. The thermal envelope had to be compatible with mechanical fastening directly to the trapezoidal steel deck.
Applied product — termPIR® AL
termPIR® AL panels with smooth aluminium foil facing were used for the roof insulation. PIR polyurethane foam with λD = 0.022 W/(m·K) delivers the highest thermal performance class among commonly available insulation materials, achieving the required U-value with a significantly reduced layer thickness compared to mineral wool or EPS. The aluminium facing acts as a vapour barrier and additionally reinforces the panel, contributing to a reaction-to-fire classification suitable for industrial roof applications.
Final outcome
The low weight of the PIR panels enabled efficient installation directly onto the trapezoidal sheet, while the large panel formats shortened the completion time across the entire roof surface. The investor received an energy-efficient roof assembly compliant with current standards, ready to accept a PVC membrane or heat-welded bituminous felt covering. BOKKA supplies termPIR® systems throughout Poland with full technical support.
