Vertical section of balcony in ETICS wall with termPIR® ETX. Balcony soffit and floor also insulated with PIR. Most commonly used detail in new-generation single-family houses.

Balcony — ETICS wall — termPIR® ETX

Junction function

Balcony in ETICS wall — the most common detail for new-generation single-family houses built in ETICS technology.

Geometry similar to a balcony in a 3-layer wall, but cheaper — only two layers of termPIR® are used (instead of three):

  1. Wall — termPIR® ETX under render (ETICS).
  2. Balcony soffit — termPIR® ETX continuation of the same facing.
  3. Balcony floor — termPIR® WS/BWS under the screed.

The balcony soffit and the wall share the same facing (ETX glass veil) — continuous render application is possible from the wall under the balcony. Aesthetic continuity.

Critical installation aspects

  • termPIR® ETX balcony soffit (item 06) — bonded to the underside of the reinforced concrete slab + mechanically fixed at min. 4 pcs/m², in edge zones 6 pcs/m².
  • PIR caps dia. 62 mm (item 05) — eliminate thermal bridges at mechanical fasteners. Without caps, “ladybugs” become visible on the facade.
  • Waterproofing (item 08) — heat-welded bitumen membrane turned up onto the wall by 15 cm under the drip flashing. Critical for the balcony — any leak means staining on the facade.
  • 1.5% slope from the wall to the balcony edge — achieved with a wedge-shaped sloping layer (item 16). Required by PN-B-10250.
  • Drip flashing with drip edge (item 14) — edge bent 90° over 30 mm prevents water from running down the facade (aesthetics + insulation protection).
  • Balustrade (item 15) — fixings installed before the surface is laid; neutral frost-resistant silicone on the fasteners.
