When to use this system
The two-layer light-wet ETICS system with termPIR® ETX is used when:
- A thin wall is a priority — e.g. plot constraints, building boundaries, refurbishments where a thicker insulation will not fit with existing window joinery.
- Wall vapour permeability is desired (μ = 90–170) — important for external walls above damp rooms and in renovations of heritage buildings.
- Biological durability and water resistance are required — PIR is resistant to rodents, fungi, mould and condensation (water absorption < 2%).
At a thickness of 120 mm termPIR® ETX we achieve U = 0.20 W/m²·K — exactly the WT 2021 requirement for external walls in heated rooms. For comparison, the same U value requires ~210 mm of mineral wool (λ = 0.040) or ~190 mm of EPS (λ = 0.038).
Installation requirements
Key rules arising from the technology and the European Technical Assessment ETA-17/0066:
- Seasoning — ETX boards should be installed no earlier than 1 month after the production date (allowing dimensions to stabilise).
- Bonding — universal adhesive should cover at least 80% of the board surface (the perimeter-and-dot method is not recommended).
- Mechanical fasteners — disc anchors with PIR or EPS caps, 62 mm in diameter:
- min. 4 pcs/m² up to a building height of 12 m
- min. 6 pcs/m² in edge zones (corners, around openings, roof edges)
- anchor length matched to board thickness + substrate layer + ≥35 mm embedment in the load-bearing wall
- PIR caps cover the anchor discs after fastening — this eliminates thermal bridges and the “ladybird” effect (visible patches on the façade around anchors).
- Reinforcing mesh made of glass fibre (≥160 g/m²) embedded in a 3 mm adhesive layer — overlap of at least 10 cm between strips.
- Thin-coat render applied after full drying of the reinforced layer (min. 7 days).
Edge profiling and thickness calibration
termPIR® ETX is available with a straight edge profile in 600 × 1200 mm format. Thickness calibration of ±0.5 mm ensures evenness of the insulation face without sanding.
Recommended termPIR® variants
- termPIR® ETX — default choice for ETICS systems. Double-sided glass veil, λD 0.025–0.027 W/(m·K) depending on thickness.
- termPIR® ETX R-eco — variant with recycled content (>10% secondary raw material), required for public procurement covered by CAM criteria and for LEED and BREEAM certification.
Installation components from the BOKKA offer
In addition to termPIR® boards, an ETICS system requires the standard components (adhesive, anchors, mesh, render) available from the system manufacturer (e.g. Atlas, Bolix, Caparol, Knauf). Directly from our offer:
- PIR caps Ø 62 mm — eliminate thermal bridges at mechanical fasteners
- PES expansion tape — for window and door joinery
Note: this system does not use the flashings from our catalogue (OB-XX codes apply to sandwich panel systems).
Technical documentation
The system is described in the termPIR® Technical Catalogue — Residential Buildings (Gór-Stal, 2022-04-26, pp. 33–39). It holds the European Technical Assessment ETA-17/0066 issued by ITB and approval for use in ETICS systems on the EU market.
