ETICS termPIR® ETX — Typical Wall Section

Classic two-layer external wall insulation with the termPIR® ETX system (PIR ETICS board with ETA 17/0066). Bonding + mechanical fixing + mineral render on mesh. Class B-s1, d0 — fire safety of a system with mineral cover.

Junction function

ETICS termPIR® ETX = external wall insulation system to PN-EN 13499 + ETAG 004 with ETA 17/0066 issued by ITB (Building Research Institute). Complete system: adhesive + board + dowels + mesh + reinforcing mortar + primer + render.

Key parameters vs. competition:

  • λD = 0.022 W/m·K (vs EPS 0.031, MW 0.035) → 30% thinner layer for the same U-value.
  • Reaction-to-fire class (system) B-s1, d0 — safe for residential buildings up to 25 m in height; self-extinguishing.
  • Impact resistance typical to ETAG: category II (5J / 10J) on a standard façade.
  • Water vapour permeability μ = 22 → limited wet diffusion; requires good interior ventilation.

Critical installation aspects

  • Horizontal damp-proof course (item 04) — bituminous felt or elastomeric membrane must be placed beneath the insulation at the bottom edge; without it, capillary moisture rise from the foundation = adhesive degradation → boards falling off.
  • Plate dowels (item 05) — fixing pattern at the four corners + centre (“T” or “W”). Number of dowels:
    • standard = 6 pcs/m² (wall centre)
    • edge zone = 8 pcs/m² (1 m from wall corner)
    • corner zone = 10 pcs/m² (3 m from corner, for buildings >5 m in height)
  • Full-surface bonding (NOT spot/perimeter bonding) — full adhesive coverage eliminates voids in the insulation layer; bonding category W2 to ETAG.
  • Mineral render (item 03) — 2 layers: reinforcing mortar with mesh (4–6 mm) + finish coat (2–3 mm); light colour (>20% light reflectance) required to avoid surface overheating above 70°C in summer.
  • Starter track (item 13) — supports the first row of boards; sets the level and protects the bottom edge from mechanical impacts; aluminium, with a vapour-permeable insert.
  • Slab ring beam (items 07, 14) — a 30–50 mm termPIR® ETX strip is required within the slab layer to eliminate the linear thermal bridge at the ring beam (typically ψ ≈ 0.5 W/m·K without insulation).
