Cold room partition wall — installation at floor

Junction function

Lower edge of cold room partition wall — GS insPIRe® CH panel (item 01) rests against a PVC trim (item 08) anchored to the levelling screed (item 04). Full cold room floor build-up:

  1. Concrete floor slab (item 03) — load-bearing structure.
  2. Vapour barrier (item 05) — bituminous felt or PE film on the concrete slab on the cold side.
  3. termPIR sub-floor board (item 02) — typically termPIR WS (reinforced, for floors with loads).
  4. Cement levelling layer (item 04) — approx. 50 mm.
  5. Concrete finishing floor (item 06) with resin additives — resistant to cold room chemistry.

The PVC trim (item 08) is mechanically anchored to the screed (item 04) — eliminating the thermal bridge caused by metal angle profiles (typical in industrial cold rooms).

Critical installation aspects

  • Vapour barrier (item 05) — continuous across the entire surface of the concrete slab, joints with 100 mm overlap + butyl tape. Loss of continuity → condensation within the insulation + loss of efficiency within 2-3 years.
  • termPIR sub-floor board (item 02) — typically WS (reinforced, density ~38 kg/m³, for loads up to 50 kPa). For heavy-load racking (forklift): board with higher density.
  • Cement levelling layer (item 04) — min. 50 mm, reinforced with Q188 mesh (for heavy loads Q257). 1% fall towards the drain (water from frost defrosting).
  • PVC trim (item 08) — min. 100 mm high, fixed with chemical anchors to the screed every 300 mm. Trim filling: low-expansion PU foam (item 07).
  • Stainless self-drilling fastener (item 09) — secures the panel to the PVC trim through an EPDM gasket. Standard galvanised fasteners corrode in a humid-cold environment (>80% RH) — requirement: stainless steel A2 minimum.
  • Resin finishing floor (item 06) — finish resistant to detergent chemistry (daily cold room cleaning), epoxy or polyurethane resin.
