Gable wall — W1 under-rafter roof (termPIR® ETX + AL)

Junction between a W1 pitched roof and a fire gable wall (e.g. semi-detached / terraced house). Requires 3 separate elements: fire-resistant ring beam in the wall + ETX façade insulation + continuity of termPIR AL roof insulation. All sealed with tapes and low-expansion PIR foam.

Gable wall — W1 under-rafter roof (termPIR® ETX + AL)

Function of the junction

A fire gable wall is a party wall in a semi-detached or terraced house — it requires fire resistance of REI 60–120 in accordance with PN-EN 13501-2. At the same time, it must not become a thermal bridge.

Solution as per the catalogue:

  1. Ring beam closing the fire wall (item 08) — reinforced concrete ring beam at floor / eaves level, a continuation of the wall’s load-bearing structure.
  2. termPIR® ETX (item 09) on the external surface of the wall — ETICS with ETA, fire reaction class B-s1, d0 (system with mineral cover).
  3. termPIR® AL between and under the rafters (items 06, 07) — continuation of roof insulation, running down onto the ring beam.
  4. Low-expansion PIR foam (item 12) — fills the 5–15 mm gap between the roof insulation and the ring beam.

Critical installation aspects

  • Fire reaction class of the termPIR® ETX system with mineral cover — per ETA 17/0066 = B-s1, d0 (self-extinguishing, low smoke, no flaming droplets). Meets fire requirements for gable walls.
  • Low-expansion PIR foam (item 12)must be low-expansion; high-expansion foam will burst the joint between the ring beam and the insulation, creating a gap for fire.
  • Fire-resistant ring beam (item 08) — the fire wall must extend at least 30 cm above roof covering level (for semi-detached houses, per WT § 235). termPIR® boards in this strip are covered by galvanised sheet flashing.
  • Wind barrier (item 04) terminated on the ring beam with a 200 mm turn-up onto the wall + sealing with butyl tape.
  • Self-drilling screw (item 11) — fixing the rafter structure to the ring beam through the termPIR® board → long timber screws 200+ mm.
  • termPIR® AL board cut at the joint with the ring beam — seal with low-expansion foam around the perimeter.

Present in the system pitched roof — termPIR® under-rafter.
