Junction function
GS MW S 80 mm side lock = the joining geometry of two adjacent sandwich panels with a visible fastener in the lock area. This is the basic sealing mechanism for vertical/horizontal panel seams.
Key features of the S 80 mm lock:
- Modular width: 1000 mm (standard) or 1140 mm (XL variant).
- Tongue-and-groove geometry: the lower tongue of one panel enters the upper groove of the adjacent panel; a strip of mineral wool in the lock ensures insulation continuity.
- Visible fastener — passes through the lock into the purlin, the head covered by an EPDM or aluminium cap.
- Class 1 tightness acc. to PN-EN 14509 — resistance to air leakage and rainwater penetration.
Critical installation aspects
- Gap between panels min. 1 mm — required for thermal movement (expansion of steel sheet within the 0–80°C range is ~1 mm/m).
- PES tape in the lock — self-adhesive polyethylene sealant that eliminates air migration through the geometric gap.
- Installation sequence — always bottom to top (vertical panels) or from the end support (horizontal panels); reversed order = the lock will not close properly.
- Production tolerance ±1 mm on width — does not require adjustment on site; when replacing a single panel, check whether the manufacturer accepts the extended module.
