insPIRe® S 40 mm panel fastening — section A-A and B-B

Point fastening of the thinnest insPIRe® S panel to a steel purlin using self-drilling fasteners. Minimum 3 fasteners across the 1000 mm panel width. PES sealing tape between panel and purlin.

Junction function

insPIRe® S 40 mm fastening = identical logic as in thicker S panels (60–120 mm), but with additional limitations:

  • 40 mm is the borderline thickness for typical self-drilling fasteners — a short fastener is required.
  • No aluminium facing beneath the steel sheet — the fastener engages directly with the PIR core.
  • Lower structural load capacity vs. thicker panels — requires precise purlin spacing (max 3.5 m).

Critical installation aspects

  • Minimum 3 fasteners across the 1000 mm width — unlike in thicker S panels, in S 40 mm this is an absolute minimum (lower than the requirement in S 60+).
  • Tightening torque 6–10 Nm — lower than in thicker panels (excessive torque will dent the facing sheet into the PIR layer).
  • Fastener visible at the centre of the joint — critical for maintaining the geometry of the PUS gasket.
  • EPDM or aluminium cap — absolutely required (without it the steel head corrodes within 5–10 years).
  • Edge zone — within a 3 m strip from the building corner, fastener density is increased by 50%.
