Structural expansion joint — horizontal GS MW S/CH panel layout

Junction function

Expansion joint in horizontal layout = analogous to the vertical layout (p. 22). Required for buildings >60-80 m. Configuration:

1. Custom expansion flashing (item 03) — flexible Z/Omega element absorbing ±20 mm.
2. OB-17 cover trim (item 04) conceals the joint from the inside.
3. On-site mineral wool (item 05) in a 100-200 mm strip, loosely packed.

Critical installation aspects

• Expansion flashing fixed on one side only to the “fixed” structure; the moving side slides relative to the flashing.
• No rigid fasteners within 50 cm of the expansion joint.
• Mineral wool loosely packed — remains flexible under movement amplitude.
• Visual check after the first winter — minor hairline cracks = normal; no movement = flashing poorly designed/fixed.
