Junction function
Freezer base at the external wall = the most demanding detail in a freezer facility. A temperature gradient of 50°C (freezer −25°C, ground +10°C) requires a complete termPIR system beneath the floor.
Vs. standard bases (adjacent p. 33):
- Variant I = full sub-floor termPIR layout — critical for:
- Preventing ground freezing (after years of operation, a freezer without sub-floor insulation may form a “frost lens” beneath the floor).
- Floor stability — the temperature gradient stresses the concrete.
Critical installation aspects
- termPIR under the floor, thickness 150–200 mm (for a −25°C/+10°C ground freezer ΔT=35°C → 150 mm; for −40°C ΔT=50°C → 200 mm).
- Vapour barrier (item 07) beneath the termPIR on the ground side — SBS bituminous felt or 0.3 mm PE foil.
- PUR foam + plastic sealing compound seal the panel/floor joint.
- PVC concrete base profile protects against impact from equipment.
- Cement levelling layer between termPIR and the concrete floor — prevents point loading of the PIR.
