Junction function

Fastening GS MW panels to a purlin is the basic point-fixing scheme for S/CH panels to the load-bearing structure of an industrial hall (purlin = horizontal beam between columns).

Rules according to the catalogue:

  • Minimum 3 fasteners across the 1000 mm panel width — corresponds to typical purlin spacing of 3.0–4.5 m; for wider spacing, the number of fasteners must be increased.
  • Self-drilling fasteners class 4.6 or 4.8 per PN-EN ISO 898-1; length = panel thickness + purlin thickness + 30 mm reserve.
  • PES tape (item 04) between the panel and the purlin — eliminates the effect of structural vibrations on the fastener (original function: acoustic insulation + damping).
  • Driving scheme — fastener precisely through the geometric centre of the (lower) joint; deviation >5 mm = damage to the adjacent panel’s joint.

Critical installation aspects

  • Fastener tightening torque — critical! Too tight = denting of the facing sheet and loss of EPDM sealing under the head; too loose = the fastener pulls out under wind load. The manufacturer recommends a torque of 8–12 Nm (cordless screwdriver with torque control).
  • Layout of 3 fasteners across the 1000 mm width: one every 333 mm; ALTERNATIVELY 2 fasteners + mid-span driving (when purlin spacing >3.5 m).
  • Edge zone — within a 3 m strip from the building corner, fastener density is increased by 50% (minimum 4 fasteners per width), in accordance with PN-EN 1991-1-4 (wind pressure on corners).
  • Cap colours — per project specification; missing cap = steel head exposed externally, corrodes within 5 years.
  • Fastener inspection after 12 months — verification that the tightening torque has not decreased (typical in newly built industrial halls — vibrations from production equipment may loosen fasteners).

Occurs in every GS MW S/CH wall system.
