Junction function
The ridge is the highest point of a dual-pitched roof — where two roof slopes meet at an angle. The junction must perform three functions simultaneously:
- Water tightness — prevent rainwater ingress into the panel joint (water running down both slopes must not seep between the panels).
- Roof space ventilation — typically the ridge is the air outlet point of the ventilated roof space.
- Ridge line aesthetics — clean line with no visible leaks from the façade side.
The system solves this with a two-stage sheet metal flashing: the lower OB-23 closes the panel joint from the roof air side, the upper OB-22 covers the whole from outside and drains water down both slopes.
Critical installation aspects
- Ridge flashing overlap: minimum 50 mm on each side of the ridge line. Smaller overlaps may cause leakage in driving wind conditions.
- PE profiled gasket (item 03) is absolutely required between panels and lower flashing — it fills the toothed geometry of the panel’s trapezoidal profile. Without the gasket — a path for water vapour and air from the hall interior.
- PU installation foam (item 08) fills the internal space between panels at the ridge itself. Use low-expansion foam (expansion ≤ 30%); high-expansion foam may deform the flashing.
- Self-drilling fasteners secure the panels to the structural purlins (item 02). At the ridge, an increased fastener density is required (roof edge zone) — typically 6 pcs/m² vs 3 in the internal zone.
- OB-28 is a profiled flashing that fills the trapezoidal panel profile groove — eliminating the air bridge from the ridge into the panel.
Connection with other flashings
The ridge system has several geometric variants depending on:
- roof pitch (from 3° for very low slopes),
- trapezoidal corrugation height (typically 38 mm for the T profile),
- planned ridge ventilation (with openings in the flashing vs closed).
Appears in the insPIRe® D multi-span pitched roof system.
