Industrial window — vertical GS MW S/CH panel layout (vertical section)

Vertical window detail in a hall with vertical sandwich panels. Complete set of 4 flashings: drip flashing above window OB-10/OB-13, window sill OB-37, stiffener OB-16 at internal sill. PVC or aluminium window with fasteners securing it to the rail framing.

Junction function

Window in an industrial hall — vertical section = side view from the vertical plane. It shows:

  1. Above the window (items 04, 05): drip flashings OB-10 + OB-13 discharging rainwater — analogous to the plinth (OB-13 above the window with a 30 mm drip edge).
  2. Below the window (items 06, 07): sill OB-37 with a 5% slope + stiffener OB-16 beneath the internal sill.
  3. Fastener securing the window frame (item 03 with fastener) to the steel rail framing (item 02).

A window in industrial halls serves two functions:

  • Natural daylighting of the work area (the PN-EN 12464-1 standard requires a minimum of 300 lx at the workstation; natural daylighting supplements artificial lighting and reduces energy costs).
  • Ventilation (typically tilt windows at the top of the wall — extracting warm air from the hall; combined with doors, they create cross-flow ventilation).

Critical installation aspects

  • Window geometry vs 1000 mm panel module — the window should have a width equal to a multiple of the module (e.g. 2000, 3000 mm) or fit within a single module; non-standard widths require custom side flashings.
  • Fasteners securing the window frame to the rail framing (item 03 with fastener) — typically every 60 cm along the edge zone of the frame + every 80 cm in the centre; seal the joint with low-expansion foam + a vapour-tight tape on the interior side.
  • OB-37 sill with 5% slope — 30 mm drip edge projecting beyond the façade; 200 mm EPDM strip under the sill on render mesh.
  • OB-16 stiffener — beneath the internal sill; critical for acoustics (an internal sill vibrates like a loudspeaker without stiffening → annoying hum for workers).
  • Neutral silicone (item 13) around the window perimeter + at flashing joints — typically Sika Sikaflex-11FC or Bostik MS Polymer.
  • Edge zone around the window — panel fasteners increased by 50% within a 30 cm strip around the window (usually required by structural calculations for an opening in the façade).

Occurs in industrial halls with façade daylighting.
