Junction function
Window in a sandwich panel wall with horizontal panel layout — panels arranged horizontally (horizontal module axis). Unlike the vertical layout, the panels continue above and below the window — interrupted only along the band corresponding to the window opening height.
This is a simpler geometry than the vertical layout:
- Panels above the window (item 01 upper) continue uninterrupted, with their bottom edge meeting the window frame.
- Panels below the window (item 01 lower) continue uninterrupted, with their top edge meeting the external sill.
- Side panels are interrupted around the window opening — they require OB-01 + OB-02 on the window frame.
Critical installation aspects
- Panel division at the opening — horizontal panels should not be cut; the edges of the window frame determine the panel module height (e.g. a 1.2 × 1.5 m window requires a 1.5 m high panel module along the opening band).
- OB-37 window sill (item 07) — in the horizontal layout the sill rests directly on the lower panel. Slope of 5% towards the exterior, 30 mm drip edge.
- Top edge of the opening — OB-01 corner flashing conceals the joint between the upper panel and the frame; PES sealing tape (item 08) on the interface with the panel.
- Side edges of the window — analogous to the vertical layout: window frame + OB-01/OB-02 + foam + silicone.
- Edge zone of the opening — double fastener density within a 30 cm band from the window edge.
Vertical vs horizontal layout
| Aspect | Vertical layout | Horizontal layout (this one) |
|---|---|---|
| Number of cut panels | all 4 sides of the opening | only 2 sides (left + right) |
| Ease of window installation | lower | higher |
| Façade aesthetics | linear vertical pattern | linear horizontal pattern |
| Maximum panel length | 16 m | 16 m (but the module height width counts) |
| Price per opening | baseline | -15% (fewer cut edges) |
Horizontal layout preferred for:
- buildings with large window bands (shops, car showrooms — strip windows)
- halls with windows at the top (daylighting of warehouse halls)
Used in the insPIRe® S hall wall system.
