When to use this system
Standard for full-scale livestock buildings — from 5,000-bird poultry houses to 200-cow barns and 1,000-pig piggeries. Sandwich panel provides fast installation, structural self-support and — with the right internal coating — resistance to the aggressive livestock environment.
Choose this system when:
- New-build facility — you want to take advantage of fast installation and minimal labour.
- High hygiene requirements — pressure washing, chemical disinfection, PZH approval (for selected coatings).
- Long amortisation period (15-30 years) — specialty coatings carry 20-40 year warranties vs. 5-10 years for standard.
- Steel structure — sandwich panel is ideal for the typical steel-framed skeleton of a livestock building.
Choosing the internal coating
The coating is factory-applied by the steel mill (ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel) onto the steel coil that goes into sandwich panel production. It cannot be applied “after the fact” to a standard sheet.
| Coating | Manufacturer | Thickness | Warranty | Typical price vs standard | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Granite® Farm | ArcelorMittal | 35-50 µm PVDF | 20-25 years | +15-25% | cattle barns, piggeries, poultry houses, feed stores |
| Granite® HDX | ArcelorMittal | 35-50 µm PVDF | 20-30 years | +25-40% | highly aggressive environments, slaughterhouse clean sections, dairies |
| Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra | Tata Steel | 200 µm plastisol | 40-year Confidex® | +60-90% | premium cattle barns, eco-buildings, long amortisation |
| Colorcoat Prisma | Tata Steel | 50 µm PVDF + LP | 30 years | +30-50% | facades requiring stable colour |
| INOX AISI 304/316 | various | no coating (stainless steel) | 30-50 years | +200-400% | direct food contact, dairies, slaughterhouses |
Geometry and parameters
- Modular width: 1000 or 1140 mm.
- Panel length: up to 16 m (matched to the length of the building wall).
- Thicknesses: 80 / 100 / 120 mm — selected according to the U-value required for the climate and livestock conditions.
- External profiling: L/M/F/R/P to choose from.
- Internal profiling: L (linear) or P (smooth) — P preferred for easy washing.
- External colours: standard RAL palette, others available to order.
- Fixing: visible (S lock) or concealed (U lock).
Required flashings
Full set as for a hall wall:
- OB-01 / OB-02 — external / internal corner
- OB-17 — panel joint cover
- OB-22 — ridge flashing (where joining the gable wall or roof)
- OB-36 — panel closure at window / door
- OB-37 — window sill
Flashings in standard paint (external) or specialty coating (internal, where visible from the animal side — e.g. around the barn door).
Order lead time
- Granite® Farm — 3-5 weeks from order (coil available from manufacturer’s stock).
- Granite® HDX / Prisma / HPS200 Ultra — 4-8 weeks (coil ordered from manufacturer, 2-4 week response time + production).
- INOX — 6-10 weeks (INOX coil as specialty material, panel production requires special tooling).
Construction planning: place panel orders at least 8-10 weeks before planned installation to avoid construction delays.
Technical documentation
The system is described in the Gór-Stal 2025 Technical Catalogue (page 5 — wall built from S sandwich panels, page 16 — coating variants). Classification NRO + B-s1,d0, PZH approval for panels with standard paint; approvals for specialty coatings — on request from the steel manufacturer.
