Detail · GS MW / insPIRe®

GS insPIRe (groove) + GS MW (tongue) joint

Reverse variant of the mixed joint: GS insPIRe groove + GS MW tongue. Requires **removal of the MW tongue** with a utility knife or router, and sanding of the edges for proper fit.

GS insPIRe (groove) + GS MW (tongue) joint

Junction function

Reverse variant of the mixed joint = GS insPIRe groove + GS MW tongue. Vs. the previous detail (MW groove + insPIRe tongue):

  • The insPIRe groove has different geometry than MW — it does not fit a standard MW tongue.
  • MW tongue modification required by removal/sanding.

Practical procedure:

  1. Measure the GS insPIRe groove — typically 30–40 mm deep, 80–100 mm wide.
  2. Remove the GS MW tongue — utility knife (thin tongue up to 50 mm) or router (thicker ones).
  3. Sand the edges with 80–120 grit paper for smoothness.
  4. Slide the modified MW panel into the insPIRe groove.

Critical installation aspects

  • On-site operation — requires a prepared station with a router + sanding paper; not feasible at typical installation pace.
  • Only for advanced installation crews — improper sanding will damage the mineral wool and reduce panel load-bearing capacity.
  • Standard fixing — self-drilling fasteners through the panels into the supporting structure; no special requirements.
  • Reduced airtightness — greater than in the MW groove + insPIRe tongue variant (site-modified tongue ≠ factory geometry); class 2 maximum.
  • NOT recommended for air-conditioned halls / cold stores — factory geometry is required.

Used in rare unplanned retrofits — e.g. replacement of a damaged insPIRe segment with MW (when MW is more readily available).
