Junction function
Variant II of the freezer base — an alternative solution to the classic concrete plinth with PVC profile. Structural change: a PVC skirting board (item 10) replaces the concrete plinth.
Selected for:
- Renovations of existing freezer chambers — where we don’t want to interfere with the concrete floor (replacement of the concrete plinth can be omitted).
- Freezer chambers with frequent pressure washing — PVC skirting is easier to clean than a concrete edge (fewer crevices, no corrosion).
- Temporary chambers — a modular solution that is faster to install (~30% faster than Variant I).
Critical installation aspects
- PVC skirting board (item 10) — fixed with sealed blind rivets (item 12) to the cold storage panel + permanently plastic sealant (item 11) at the joint with the floor. Without this — air leakage + condensation.
- PE vapour barrier (item 07) interrupted at the plinth — unlike the floor where it is continuous. Connection to the vertical wall film via a 30 cm overlap.
- Perimeter termPIR® AL (item 02) under the floor in a 50 cm strip from the chamber wall — interrupts the thermal bridge at the wall/floor interface.
- External plinth flashing (item 06) — 5% slope, drains water away from the chamber perimeter. OB-13 (plinth drip edge) or OB-14 (small plinth drip edge) depending on plinth height.
- PU foam (item 08) fills the internal corner between the wall panel and the floor — 3D thermal continuity.
- Stainless steel fastener with washer (item 13) — stainless steel is mandatory in an ammonia environment (compressor) and damp conditions (pressure washing).
Variant I vs II
| Aspect | Variant I (concrete plinth + PVC) | Variant II (PVC skirting) |
|---|---|---|
| Internal plinth | concrete + PVC profile (item 8 in Variant I) | PVC skirting directly |
| Installation time | longer (concrete pouring) | shorter (dry skirting) |
| Ease of cleaning | good | very good (no crevices) |
| Renovation of existing chamber | difficult | easy |
| Price per lm | baseline | -15% |
| Typical application | new chambers | renovations, catering |
Used in freezer base + freezer floor systems.
