Cold Room Suspended Ceiling — insPIRe® CH (omega profile)

When to use this system

Suspended refrigeration ceiling made of insPIRe® CH panels is used when:

  • Cold chamber interior in an existing facility — existing slab structure is uninsulated, panels are suspended below.
  • Hall with internal cold chamber — the chamber does not occupy the full height of the hall, ceiling is insulated at the required chamber height.
  • Ripening rooms in dairies / bakeries — suspended ceiling allows easy access to installations above the chamber.
  • Cold-storage renovations — ceiling replacement without interrupting chamber operation.

Omega profile characteristics

The Ω profile made of polyester composite is the key to this solution:

  • Thermal bridge elimination — polyester has λ ~10× higher than steel, but at the suspension point the thermal bridge is negligible vs. a continuous steel element.
  • Ceiling level adjustment — tensioning nut on the Ø10 threaded rod enables precise leveling of the ceiling (±20 mm).
  • Stability — galvanised steel M10 nut secures the position.
  • Structural capacity — typically 80–120 kg per linear metre of panel (limit depends on panel density and hanger spacing).

Alternative fixings

TypeApplicationComment
Ω profileceiling with negligible thermal bridgingdefault choice for freezer rooms
T profileceiling with higher thermal bridge tolerancecheaper, lower adjustment precision
Direct fixing to structurewhen the slab is close (≤ 200 mm clearance)no bridges, no adjustment

Installation requirements

  • Hanger spacing: typically every 1200–1500 mm (depending on panel thickness and load).
  • Panel joints — sealed with PU foam and permanently plastic sealant on the chamber side; PES gasket on the external side.
  • Cold-room doors — thermal door frame compatible with the suspension system.
  • Ceiling penetrations (evaporators, lighting, sensors) — require dedicated stainless steel sleeves + frost-resistant silicone sealing.

Required flashings and accessories

  • OB-17 — covering the panel joint
  • OB-36 — closing the panel
  • Sandwich panel fasteners (hidden lock for smooth surface on the chamber side)
  • PES gasket — polyurethane tape for perimeter sealing
